What Should I Do About Online Attacks or Internal Disputes?

If you encounter flooding, malicious raids, a compromised account or deleted data, first secure the administrative accounts by changing passwords and enabling multi-factor authentication; revoke the permissions of suspicious bots, applications and invite links, and temporarily restrict speaking permissions in the affected channels.

Preserve the relevant records of times, messages, accounts and administrative actions, then seek help from the platform's administrators or a trusted contact of the organisation. Important websites, documents and registers should have recent backups; administrative permissions should be allocated according to the needs of the work, and a method of handover should be arranged in advance for when the principal administrators are unable to deal with a matter.

If the dispute concerns internal governance, first consult the rules currently in force and the records of authorisation, and avoid making public accusations or suddenly changing permissions before the information has been verified. A discussion may be convened under the community's procedure, a complaint may be lodged, or a third party trusted by both sides may be invited to assist in mediation.

Do not respond to an attack by raiding the server, publishing personal data, stealing accounts or retaliating with destruction. If the matter involves real-world personal safety, extortion or other conduct that may be unlawful, the appropriate professional or public authorities in the relevant jurisdiction should be contacted as a matter of priority, and the incident should not be treated merely as a micronational community dispute.
